STEP III course: notes, problems, hints
- This course is for students taking the STEP III exam in June 2024: official information by Cambridge Assessment. Cambridge University usually requires a grade 1 in both STEP II and III.
- How long? 12 weekly topics plus mocks (practice exams), start at any convenient time. Each topic covers 4 multi-step problems with general hints and step-by-step hints.
- All topics are designed from easiest to hardest according to our past experience. However our students may always choose to study the topics in any preferred order.
- Notes (about 14-18 pages on each topic) form a large book of about 183 pages: topic 1 on p. 1-14, solution to homework 1 on p. 15-17, topic 2 from p. 18 etc.
- What's the point if examiners' solutions to past STEP questions are online? Read about the mistake in original Q1 STEP III exam 2007 in this blog post. You may prefer a rigorous training with step-by-step hints and without logical gaps.

Marking homework and mock problems
- Homework: one long problem on each topic with our general hints and step-by-step hints given in the notes, e.g. the first homework is Problem 1.4.
- In the extended version of the STEP III course, students submit their solution to one extra problem, your extra homework on Topic 1 is Problem 1.1 or 1.2 or 1.3.
- No deadlines: our students choose to work through the topics in any order and submit their homework when they are ready, any late homework is always marked.
- We mark any long problem as a mini-mock: full mark 20 as in a real STEP paper. The solutions follow step-by-step hints, review common mistakes and useful tips.
- Each mock consists of 8 pure maths problems from the past STEP III exams. All other problems are similar to (and often harder than) STEP III exams 2006-2012.
- You will always get the next notes with our detailed feedback on your previous homework. You can choose your own pace and may complete the course in 8 weeks instead of 16.
- The successful Cambridge candidates gained 75-90% on average for all homework. Even top students sometimes receive only 60% in one homework for unjustified steps. The highest score in this challenging STEP III course across all years is 90%.
