Though the STEP I was discontinued in 2019 according to the Cambridge Assessment, many students still use past STEP I papers for training, hence we keep running the STEP I course. You can be also interested in the STEP II and III courses.

STEP I course: notes, hints, web tutorials
- How long? 12 weekly topics plus 6 mocks (2 per week), start at any convenient time.
- Each topic covers 3 multi-step problems with general hints and step-by-step hints.
- All topics are designed from easiest to hardest according to the past experience. However our students may always choose to study the topics in any preferred order.
- Notes (about 9-14 pages on each of 12 topics) form a large book of 141 pages, e.g. topic 1 on pages 1-7, solution to homework 1 on p. 8-9, topic 2 from p. 10 and so on.
- STEP I exams 2011-2012 are covered in 16 web tutorials with gradual hints. 6×8 pure maths problems from STEP I 2013-2019 are marked as mocks (practice exams).
- Every web tutorial has 4 quizzes (with randomised parameters) that you can try many times, you will also browse through step-by-step solutions, useful tips and review common mistakes.
- You will always get the next notes with our detailed feedback on your previous homework. You can choose your own pace and may complete the course in 7-8 weeks instead of 15.
- What's the point if examiners' solutions to past STEP questions are on-line? The potential confusion in Q6(ii) STEP I 2007 is explained in the blog post. You may prefer a rigorous training with step-by-step hints and without gaps.

Marking homework and mock problems
- Homework: one long problem on each topic with our general hints and step-by-step hints given in the notes, e.g. first homework is Problem 1.3.
- In the extended version of the course, students may submit their solution to any extra problem, your extra homework on Topic 1 is Problem 1.1 or 1.2.
- No deadlines: our students choose to work through the topics in any order and submit their homework when they are ready, we always mark any late homework.
- We mark any long problem as a mini-mock: full mark 20 as in a real STEP paper. Our solutions follow step-by-step hints, review common mistakes and useful tips.
- Each mock exam consists of 8 original STEP problems. All training problems in the notes are similar to (not identical, and often harder than) STEP I 2006-2010.
- The successful Warwick candidates gained 65-85% on average for all their homework. Even top students sometimes receive only 60% in one homework for unjustified steps. The highest score in this challenging STEP I course across all years is 88%.
